Girls Camp 2010

Well, I made it back from the brink of insanity. That's right. I survived Girls Camp. And you know what? It was wet, it was cold, it was rainy (which is an understatement) and it was COMPLETELY AWESOME!!! Don't get me wrong, I am glad to be home; but I couldn't have asked for a better experience at camp.

We ended up doing "Survivor" theme. (see logo for the sweatshirts below): And we assigned the girls out in "tribes"
Here we are getting ready to go:

And here we are at camp (notice it is actually dry, one of the few pictures you will see of dry camp).

Here was the White tribe (Lindsey, Lidia, Heclis and Ashley):

Group Orange (Kennedy, Makenzie, and Katy):

The Yellow Tribe (Brynna, Heather, Taylor and Jade):
The Green Tribe (Kaelee, Heather, and Sarah (and Suzi, not in the picture)):

Here we are for our princess movie night:

After the movie, it was pouring rain. We tried to make the best of it, and went to our tents, but two of our tents had MAJOR leaks, all the girls had wet stuff, so we took those two tents and moved them to the lodge for the night. By morning, EVERYONE was soaked. It poured rain ALL night.

The next morning was supposed to be our hike and service project. We cancelled both, and (since we were sharing the lodge with another group), called and begged my mom to let us use her church for our days activities. By the time we got all the girls up to the church, had our guest speaker (Cal Stephens) the sun had come out. So we headed up to the cemetery and and helped clear all the flowers from memorial day. In one hours time we had the whole cemetery done and cleaned and got back to the church just in time for it to start raining agian.

Here is Kenzie (notice how sunny it is. This was amazingly the only time we had for sun, was the only time we really needed it. I think it was meant to be).

Notice the girls all spread out through the cemetery.

Back at the church for lunch.

Then we played "Ultimate Twister"

Then a couple broom games (who knew you could entertain a group of girls for hours with one simple broom)

That night the rain let up enough for us to go outside and have our special guest speaker (Thanks Mom! The girls loved it! I heard them talking about what type of "candle" they were the rest of the night), and do "Tribal challenges" (note that although it is not raining, everything is VERY wet).

Here is Suzi and our priesthood leader "balancing"

Some of our amazing girls balancing:

Then posing with "YMCA!"

I LOVE this picture of Natalie. I didn't take it, but this picture is a perfect representation of her:

The leaders balancing (I got out pretty quickly)

And our winners of each tribe fighting it out for the champion:

Some of our Charlies Angels:

Saltine eating contest:

Gum chewing/blowing contest:

And of course, fluffy bunny (where you see how many marshmallows you could fit in your mouth):

Our priesthood leader made a deal with the girls that if any of the girls beat him, they could paint his fingernails however they wanted, and he would wear it to church.

Here he is (he got 17, I think):

But our winner was Heather, with 21:

Being a good sport and getting the nails painted:

The next day it rained ALL day! We luckily were able to get my moms church again. We went there for testimony meeting. Before testimony meeting we made all the girls "vote out" one of the players (one of the other girls). It was really emotional to watch the girls say "send me out instead, I don't want any of the other girls to have to go home). But we ended up tying it all together by saying that through the atonement none of us have to be sent home. We all get a chance to "stay in the game".

Then our "yearbook" signing on the last night:

After three days of rain, and cold, our girls were AMAZING. None of them complained. None of them fought with the other girls. They all were still sooo happy and sooo friendly. Here they are the last night (at around midnight)

This morning when time came to take down the tents, it poured harder that it had the entire camp. So we put the tents in bags, and brought them home. We were soaked, our stuff was soaked, our tents were soaked. And we couldn't have been happier.

Like I said earlier, it was cold, wet, and rainy, and absolutely perfect. Our ward REALLY bonded. We had so much fun (they even tolerated my early morning wake-up song). I don't think I would have changed hardly anything.

I do just want to give a quick shout out to the wonderful leaders, who worked sooo hard to plan this amazing camp. We all took different avenues and between all of us we had all the activities planned. But most of all, thanks to my mom, who without her we would have been stuck outside in the cold and rain. She saved our camp! Thanks Mom!

It looks like you had a great time. I always camped in the rain when I went to Girls Camp as a young woman. That's just what you do when you live in Seattle. Our tents got flooded several times and we also still had fun. Thanks for the birthday wish. I really appreciate what you said!

I am glad you had a good time even though it rained. The pictures gave a clear picture on how much fun you all had.

Looks like a good time! I can only imagine the amount of time that went into this. What fun ideas! If I ever get called to YW camp director I'm calling you for ideas. Glad you got a little bit of sunshine :)

Heidi,
I am so excited that you did this and so impressed with the whole thing. I can't wait to show Kaylee who is going the end of July.
